- Tijuana Panthers – ‘Current Outfit’
Perfectly timed for release prior to the summer season, Tijuana Panthers ‘Current Outfit‘ is the beachy California surf track you were awaiting to finalize your poolside playlists. The Long Beach based garage band also shared a music video to go along with the single, showcasing the current outfits of late ’60’s/early 70’s TV commercials – which are now just as retro as Tijuana Panthers’ guitar slides.
- Bishop Nehru – ‘MEATHEAD’ ft. MF DOOM
American rapper Bishop Nehru is releasing ‘Nehruvia: My Disregarded Thoughts‘ out May 8th via Nehruvia, with ‘Meathead‘ a collaboration featuring MF DOOM as his latest single.
The short track is somewhat predictable, fitting the MF DOOM template as an artist and producer: thoughtful, well constructed bars, and classy Charlie Parker-esque backing jazz. Predictable? Yes. But worth every second of it? Definitely, yes. Bishop Nehru keeps his own distinctiveness, amplifying the message of the single. “Kinda ridiculous like thoughts of Saint Nicholas / Breakin’ in, leavin’ gifts for all the world’s underprivileged kids / Quit with the ignorance, the emperor’s legitimate.”

- SupaSlo – ‘Get Better’
You know there are many kind of tracks: Good tracks, bad ones, so-so, sublime; But there is also a special category for me: I call them “experiences”. Why this intro? Well, ‘Get Better‘ belongs in the last categorization. It’s an experience you have to go through on repeat until this “nightmare” ends. The initial 135 seconds don’t foretell in any way what’s about to follow next, and what I can recall in the very first listen was “another decent indie psych track with loose atmosphere. Not bad, but...” .
“I wanted you to know,
that things will get better“
- Nürnberg – ‘Viera’
Ready to transfer to Minsk, Belarus to meet post punk outfit Nürnberg, who released its 2nd full-length album ‘Paharda‘ today on Sierpien Records (also available on American label Death Shadow Records)? They sing in Belarusian, but we don’t really care since their sound is addictive enough to overcome any language barrier. Dark, melodic, obsessive and so much in the great “CCCP” tradition! Dig it…
- Caustic Wound – ‘Black Bag Asphyxiation’
Let’s start with the appropriate introductions: Caustic Wound feature members of MORTIFERUM, Cerebral Rot, Fetid, and Magrudergrind, so as you may understand they are a “super-star NBA black/deah-grindcore” team. Their debut album was released a few days ago on Profound Lore Records, and ‘Black Bag Asphyxiation‘ is the chosen ‘sin’. This is an old-school, blackened death-grindcore, ‘in-your-face’ bombardement and 109 seconds prove more than lethal for any sensitive ear. Will you proceed in the ‘drain’?
