1. Helen Money – ‘Understory’

Alison Chesley, the composer and cellist behind Helen Money, has released her latest single ‘Understory‘ from upcoming LP ‘Atomic‘ due out later this month via Thrill Jockey.

Understory‘ is five minutes of haunting plucks and ominous pedal effects, giving you a building unnerving feeling until a release of tension reminiscent of guitar greats…except it’s all the cello. Ripe to be chosen for a horror film soundtrack, ‘Understory‘ is highly recommended to appreciate.

  1. Tom Misch & Yussef Dayes – ‘Lift Off’ (feat. Rocco Palladino) – [Live]

English pop/soul musician Tom Misch and innovative drummer/producer Yussef Dayes – who’s most often categorized as jazz but incorporates funk and Senegalese percussion into his jamming – have gifted us a live session video for ‘Lift Off‘. The track is an instrumental melting pot of sensual guitar and funky drumming that keep you hanging, along with a tight bass line courtesy of bassist Rocco Palladino (son of the great session bassist Pino Palladino).

Listen to ‘Lift Off‘ now, and check out Misch & Dayes upcoming collaborative album ‘What Kinda Music?‘ out April 24th via Beyond The Groove / Blue Note.

  1. Charles Walker – ‘FREEDOM TO CRAWL’

Charles Walker is a promising young indie singer-songwriter hailing from the mountains of Boone, North Carolina, and ‘FREEDOM TO CRAWL‘, his latest track and video came at the most ideal period, in the post-COVID-19 era, while most of the planet is struck, to brighten our thoughts, feelings and ultimately lives. Mixing a catchy indie pop/rock chorus with flawless alt-country vibes and an emotive, genuine vocal performance with lyrics like the following, couldn’t ask for more. Thank you Charles!

i had a pit in my chest today, like everyday
and usually i would just breathe and lay down
but i took a look at myself today, like everyday
and i decided i’m gonna find a way out

freedom to crawl out of this hole and find a reason
some semblance of control over my demons
a place that I can go when I’m not feeling right

and i kinda feel like a mess today, like everyday
i’m always feeling low when it’s light out
so i’ll do a little bit less today, than yesterday
and talk on the phone til my mouth gets dried out

freedom to crawl out of this hole and find a reason
some semblance of control over my demons
a place that I can go when I’m not feeling right

  1. Black River Bell – ‘The New World’

Next  up  we have  a  dark-ish,  experimental  folk  gem  by  Aussie  citizen Tim Bray  AKA  Black River Bell, whose music/art has stronlgy been influenced since the devastating summer Australia endured with bushfires.

The New World‘  does not  apply  to everybody, but those  daring  ones, who will give it a try, will find themselves lost in a unique dark folk spiral with no easy way out… Brilliant!

  1. Dead Feeling – ‘New Legend Drugs’

Dead Feeling from Gainesville, Florida, recently ree=leased their latest 4-track E.P. ‘nu.wav‘, off which we chose the post-punk/dark wave opening dynamite ‘New Legend Drugs‘. Filtered with impeccable DIY aesthetics, lo-fi vibes, and a goth-y sound like an imaginary jam between The Cure  & Joy Division, this one couldn’t have been anything less than an instant classic.

Creatures of the nite, this is a really good reason to re-unite…..
