- OCEANS – ‘Dark’
OCEANS from Germany and Austria is a band which mixes the nu-metal sound of the 90s with modern death metal elements. They are releasing their debut album ‘The Sun and The Cold‘ on January 10th via Nuclear Blast.
- Charger – ‘Watch Your Back’
Charger, the lovechild of Rancid bassist Matt Freeman, released ‘Watch Your Back‘ this past week, and you’ll be able to find the 12” single on December 13th if you so desire. ‘Handcuffed and beaten face down on the ground / illegally surveilled by the state / enhanced interrogation / no control of your fate’, the track details how Big Brother is always watching in the chaotic manner of old-school Motörhead.
- Odetta Hartman – ‘Old Man Trump / Will The Circle Be Unbroken’
New York based folk cowgirl, Odetta Hartman’s latest release isn’t exactly new, as it features a cover of Woody Guthrie’s songs ‘Old Man Trump‘ (about Donald Trump’s father Fred) with a little of Guthrie’s ‘I Ain’t Got No Home In This World Anymore‘ mixed in for good measure, followed by the Christian hymn ‘Will the Circle Be Unbroken?‘ All proceeds from the single, whose contents are a slam in the face with relevancy, will go to the International Refugee Assistance Project. So give this one a listen!
- Quivers – ‘When It Breaks’
A superb jangle pop track -and video- by Aussies Quivers is next in this week’s Mixtape! ‘When It Breaks‘ is a song dealing with memory and hope, has an extremely sing-along chorus and contains lyrics like the following: “…And when we dream, we dream of danger All the ways our bodies can fall apart...”.
No need for more, just press the play below and get lost in Quivers’ jangle pop haze…
- Dead Little Penny – ‘Out of Body Experience’
Remaining in Oceania, and specifically in Auckland, New Zealand to meet for the 2nd time this year Dead Little Penny. Their audio blender for ‘Out of Body Experience‘ is filled with shoegaze cookies, psychedelic chocolate, punk cream, indie rock syrup and dream pop nuts. Am I hungry? Yup, for Dead Little Penny!
