London-based pianist and composer Matt Stewart-Evans released ‘COLOURS / SHADES‘ – his fifth solo release on Swedish modern classical label 1631 Recordings.

Self-taught as a pianist and composer over many years, Matt’s recent success provided the motivation for his decision to make the switch from a role within music education to dedicate himself full-time as a composer. COLOURS / SHADES is his first full-length solo artist project to result from that. The album marks a progression from previous releases, blending subtle electronic textures alongside piano compositions which reflect a range of traditional and contemporary classical, cinematic and leftfield influences.

COLOURS / SHADES comes four years after Matt first featured on an early 1631 Recordings release – their highly successful ‘Piano Cloud’ compilation series. Since then he has released a string of EP’s and mini-albums with the label, including 2016 release Wander and last year’s SOLO, with features on several Spotify playlists and radio play on shows including Stephen MacCauley at BBC Radio Ulster and Soho Radio’s ‘Moving Sounds’ with James Heather. Matt has also had tracks featured on compilation series from modern classical labels including Sonder House, 7k! and Bigo & Twigetti.
