  • Q & A with Davide Lace of Detriti Records

Please give us a brief bio of the label. How did it start, til today….

Detriti Records was born at the beginning of 2015, so it’s quite a young one. It started as a reply to a specific need: to host sounds and projects, that rarely fit with the traditional music market (the underground one included). Sometimes because they are too weird, sometimes because they are not catchy enough to draw the attention of bigger labels, that have to respect the strict rules of the market.

Which labels inspired you most to make your own?

Well about inspirations I would mention here just two cases: Opal Tapes and the DIY tradition of the French coldwave. Actually many others could be mentioned, but let’s take these two archetypes: a successful cassette label and the underground punk / post-punk tradition of doing things without mediators and compromises.

Which is the motto for Detriti Records?

A motto for Detriti Records? Mmm maybe “Outsiders of the world, unite!” (Marx forgive me).

Which are the advantages and disadvantages of running a music label today?

Disadvantages: out there is full of amazing and interesting labels, so to be able to emerge can be very stressfull.

Advantages: sometimes you just need to open Facebook to discover some very good new music and artists.

Which are your future plans for the label?

Future plans: to grow enough to be able to produce vinyls. When you can sell vinyls it means you have many supporters, it means you’re doing things properly.

  • Three distinctive Detriti Records releases

Ascending – ‘First Kiss

Well, Ascending‘s ‘First Kiss‘ is really an “extreme” release… somehow it belongs to the “outsider house / club-not-club music” movement, but at the same time is so industrial, zero compromises. Sometimes it seems an industrial interpretation of a mix between coldwave and house music… so definitely something insane (the album teaser video will explain what I mean far better:

Sottosuolo – ‘Attoprimo

Sottosuolo‘s ‘Attoprimo‘ is another crazy release… the music is a sort of microtonal synth industrial trip; the melodic aspect is the most interesting thing to me: there are no “normal” melodies, they don’t respect the traditional musical temperaments. But let’s not start a too nerdy discussion, just give a listen to this:

Words And Actions – ‘Pensieri Di Nessuno

Words And Actions’ ‘Pensieri Di Nessuno‘ is the latest release and also my personal project. In few words, it’s french synth coldwave with Italian lyrics. Pure 80’s DIY cassette sound. Try this:
