Bluebloods‽ – ‘Jabberwocky’

About Bluebloods‽

Reared musically in an Anglican boys choir, Bluebloods’ central creator Conrad Sweatman (guitarist, producer, songwriter) was born in Winnipeg, Treaty 1 land, and lived long enough in London (UK) to learn a thing or two about making laptop music. He is grateful to have moved home, permanently it seems, to Manitoba. There, he collaborates with singers and other musicians to create the sounds of Bluebloods, whose cheeky name refers to the noble blue-collar lineage and subarctic ice running through Manitoba’s veins.

Eyemèr – ‘On My Own’

About Eyemèr

Eyemèr (pseudonym of Sarah Devreese) is a singer-songwriter whose style can be compared to artists such as Soko, Daughter, Bon Iver, and Waxahatchee. In 2014, the artist became a finalist in Humo’s Rock Rally. They have also been an opening act for known Belgian musicians such as Marble Sounds and Isbells. For their new EP, the singer-songwriter has collaborated with Michiel De Maeseneer (known for productions for among others Balthazar and Bazart) and Tomas Van Hove.

For many years already, Eyemèr has been working to break the stigma surrounding mental health using melancholic indie sounds and activist lyrics. Since 2018, which marks the year the artist came out of the closet as non-binary (not man or woman), they have also started writing about their genderqueerness. Eyemèr hopes to spotlight both the mental health theme and non-binary theme and normalize these.

Sulene – ‘Out of Your Head’

About Sulene

The mark of a great pop song is its ability to make the familiar feel brand new. To say something that’s been said a million times, only in a way that’s never been said before. The same is true of great pop artists. They draw influence from sounds and styles that came before, but deftly transform the recognizable into an electrifying new vision. South African indie-pop artist Sulene knows this better than just about any up-and-comer, and not simply because she writes great pop songs (which she does) or crafts synth pop that is simultaneously dancey and impossibly heart-rending (which she also does). It’s because no other artist today better represents the transcendence of the familiar into the authentically new.

You have likely seen or heard Sulene before, whether you know it or not. You may have witnessed her blue hair lighting up late night TV when she’s toured the world as Nate Ruess of fun.’s guitarist. You’ve probably heard her music scoring your favorite Showtime drama, Al Pacino movie, or Verizon commercial. You may even know her as the rocker chick avatar shredding on Rock Band VR. That’s all Sulene. But like a great pop song, it’s the new terrain this multifaceted artist traverses that will win you over the most.

Gang Signs – ‘Fresh’

About Gang Signs

There is that time when night and day are seemingly entwined. When you should be sleeping but just aren’t able. The darkness is fading and the morning sun is taking its place. This is the time of day where the new album Delivery by Gang Signs exists. Featuring Peter Ricq, Adam Fink, and Matea Sarenac (her last recordings with the group) the band’s long awaited second album is all hushed synths, ethereal boy/girl harmonies and textured grooves.

Following up on their first album Geist, which was an homage to another time of day, that long walk home from the club where your only solace takes place within the confines of your headphones, the band has decided to let some light in to their otherwise heavy and drone-y affair.

Recorded at Jacknife Sound with producer Jason Corbett (ACTORS, Art d’Ecco), Gang Signs reproduced their sequence heavy tracks with mostly live instrumentation for this outing, bringing the album a warmer feel without sacrificing their trademark moodiness.

Band leader Peter Ricq, a musician as well as a director who has worked in film and animation, has stated that this album is his homage to the hyper surreal and energetic films of the 90s, like Go, Rush, True Romance and Fresh. Films where the protagonists find themselves trapped in a time, traversing the underbelly of their city trying to find that thing that will make them feel whole again. Be it a party, a love or whatever their version of a special delivery is.

BENEE – ‘Monsta’

About BENEE

Vi·sion·ar·y – as defined by Google – is a (noun) person with original ideas who plans the future with imagination or wisdom. With both traits in abundance well beyond her 19 years, New Zealand’s BENEE redefines the word. Carving out a space between indie pop and R&B, she deconstructs modern “pop music” to create a sonic landscape all her own. Growing up in suburban Auckland, New Zealand among a community of creatives, BENEE was immersed in the arts from a young age, and after releasing a series of self-released GarageBand covers on SoundCloud, she was soon writing and recording at Golden Age Studio with producer Josh Fountain in her senior year of high school. Just two weeks after enrolling in university, BENEE dropped out with a now unstoppable and feverish conviction to pursue music full-time. After releasing her Platinum-Certified breakout single “Soaked” in 2018, what she refers to as her ‘BENEEvision’— or “the idea that all of my music, visuals and content contribute to a greater artwork.”—immediately hit home.
