OK Button – ‘Verso’

About OK Button

It’s been a whirlwind nine months for Scottish synth-pop trio OK Button. Having released five sensational singles to a rapturous reception, the ethereal 3-piece have announced their next single, ‘Verso’.

The band have already established themselves as a refreshing new light in indie electronic music with two memorable and much talked about showcases at The Great Escape this year.

Following the success of previous singles ‘The Message’, ‘Flesh & Blood’ and ‘Beds’, which consecutively gained placement on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist and close to 1 million streams, the band also gained support from BBC Radio 6’s Tom Robinson, London In Stereo, Clash, GoldFlakePaint and Radio X.

Amber Wilson, Nass Donald and Adam Falkner are the musicians behind the moniker boasting notable past projects. Having met in an underground music venue, the band was born out of a chance meeting. Amber was performing an acoustic set in her native Aberdeen when Adam fortuitously stumbled upon her gig. The two formed a friendship and began sharing song ideas over email. The process served as a welcome escapism from the loneliness of being on the road with their respective musical projects – Amber as vocalist with Bombay Bicycle Club and Morcheeba, and Adam as a drummer for One Eskimo and Babyshambles.

The duo teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Nass and writer/producer Craigie Dodds (Amy Winehouse, Gorillaz, Sugababes) and thus the outfit’s dark electronic, synth-pop sound was born.

Oh Mic! – ‘The Machine’

About Oh Mic!

If you found out this inner voice belonged to either Jiminy Cricket, Skynet, Doc Brown, Master Splinter, (or a combination of all four), it would make perfect sense—but we digress.

Either way, Montreal-born singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, writer, and consummate creative Oh Mic! took this unseen voice to heart, quit a life of sales on the road, sold the family business, embraced wellness, picked up his electric guitar, and started writing songs in 2016. That revelation bred a multimedia sonic universe indebted to your favorite nineties pop culture, yet with its gaze firmly fixated on the future. (Think Weezer and Max Martin joining forces to score a James Cameron-helmed musical, and you’re halfway there). Over the course of 2018, he went from obscurity to 20,000 cumulative followers and nearly one million total plays—all independently.

Now, he’s following this internal compass into a musical Valhalla of his own design.

The Brothers Gillespie – ‘The Price of Gold’

About The Brothers Gillespie

The Brothers have always had an interest in music, playing any and every instrument they could find. In 2015 things came to a head. After the illustrious singer/songwriter Davis Gillespie returned from a semester at the University of Tennessee with a handful of songs, the other brothers (drummer extraordinaire Clay Gillespie and the Telecaster slingin’ Aaron Gillespie) set to work on actually crafting a set list “just in case” someone appeared and asked them to play, you know, just for fun. To their surprise, the end product wasn’t too shabby. The boys added the talented Max Pollifrone on bass and decided to take it to the streets.

Flash Forward to current day. The Brothers Gillespie have played and packed out most every venue in their immediate area playing hard hitting originals and a plethora of crowd pleasing covers. The mentality is still the same as when they started: keep it fun. Not just for the band, but for all who share in the experience. The Brothers are able to play with a chemistry and a passion that only be produced by the sacred bond of brotherhood. Simply put, when you come to a Brothers Gillespie show, you can expect to be in the family, part of the brotherhood for a couple of hours. And above all, you can expect a hell of a good time.

Khalmplex – ‘Southside G’

About Khalmplex

Khalmplex is a gangster/trap rap artist in San Antonio, Texas with a dominating, truth-based style. He is the last surviving member of a once-prominent crime syndicate now seeking retribution and revenge. His self-titled debut album Khalmplex drops June 20, 2019 and speaks directly to our lost, leaderless world, a world currently drowning in a lack of imagination and belief in itself. His sound is inspired by legends like MC Ren, Geto Boys, Cam’ron, and Tupac but has a deep creative vision that keeps Khalmplex fully original at all times. Two new music videos in support of Khalmplex will see daylight on July 4th and September 5th, as well.

Plex grew up loving music and knew by the time he was 13 that he had a gift no one else around him could match. He kept it to himself for a while, finally beginning his professional recording career at 16. He spent the next eight years paying his dues, recording for sketchy labels, and learning the game. He got tired of never being a priority to his labels and being put on hold over and over. In a huge power move, Plex cut all ties, severed all relationships, and became an independent self-financed artist, which was the right move for himself and his future. Now, things are getting done.

These days, Khalmplex is driven by the painful loss of his best friend/brother and his verses have become instructions to his future self. “I talk to my brother, pray to my God, and tell myself where to go,” he says and it’s easy to hear his commitment to this life in everything he creates. His persona is hard on the outside to cover the fact that he is “one big gangster-ass emotional wreck” on the inside, which gives his music the humanness and authenticity needed to connect with a large audience. “I hope to voice the trials, tribulations, and inner conflict of a young man torn between the righteousness inside of his heart and the wicked deeds that must be carried out to preserve his organization’s legacy,” he continued, giving anyone who pays attention a look into the depths of his heart and soul.

Khalmplex is a rapidly-rising name in American hip-hop and his music is vitally important to the scene at large. “Money doesn’t make me,” he said, going on “my main goal is to empower the powerless and give a voice to those forced to believe they’re speechless.” This is why Khalmplex matters and anyone who cares about true hip-hop needs to hear him tonight.

DUCKWRTH – ‘SALLIE MAE’ ft. NoMBe

About DUCKWRTH

South Central recording and visual artist, Jared Lee, was the “different kid” but don’t expect a sob story of the struggle and misunderstanding.
