Tensei – ‘Liquid Tongues’ feat. A. Billi Free

About Tensei

Tensei (meaning “Heaven Star” in Japanese) is the composer/producer/musician/beatmaker tandem of Chris Kramer and Midas Wells. Hailing from the musical mecca of Chicago, the two have a vast wealth of influences and history to inform their production including: hip hop, house, soul, jazz, library, and electronic music among others; as a result, they create eclectic compositions that fuse many disparate styles. Although steeped in the tradition of classic hip-hop production, Tensei does not rely on records for samples. They play and compose most musical parts themselves with both real and digital instruments, periodically enlisting the talents of a Chicago-based collective of internationally respected jazz and soul artists, which include Makaya McCraven, Greg Spero, Kafele, and Junius Paul among others. These artists provide a musical soundbed which is then sampled and recontextualized on top of Tensei’s, already lush, production.

Tensei have released several instrumental projects in the past and have done remixes for artists such as Bilal, and Tokimonsta//Anderson Paak, in addition, the duo have produced a song featuring the legendary Black Thought. Currently, Tensei have shifted their focus towards creating full bodies of work with the wide variety of vocalists and artists that they have connected with throughout their musical journey. The first of these projects was the self-released Dangerus EP with fellow Chicagoan, long time collaborator, and Dirty Science crew member, ADaD. Tokyo Dawn Records will be releasing several Tensei projects in the near future!

Ironfist – ‘Aelita’

About Ironfist

In an ever-flourishing oasis of musical vanguards, Ironfist is breaking the chains of conformity and blending genres to create his own brand of electronic music.

After receiving his Masters in Music Technology Innovation from Berklee College of Music, Ironfist (AKA Nicholas Zeigler) took a leap of faith and moved to one of the most progressive music cities – Berlin, Germany. It was there that he began to discover a love for house and techno, while also keeping up his musical chops playing live around the city. During his time with the live, electronic jam band My Secret Session, Ironfist would alternate between being a hired gun and resident musician – performing as the session’s DJ, bass guitarist and bass clarinetist. He would further the scope of his live music experience while also working with Sofar Sounds as their audio engineer and sound guru.

His journey has taken him to Los Angeles, where Ironfist has since released 1 LP, 6 EP’s (including remixes and collaborations with My Secret Playground, TAIINA, and Madame De Fer), as well as creating production music professionally with fellow producer Boulishious Bird. His goal – to release music independently and to create a community for fellow music innovators – has come to fruition in the founding of Rabotat Records in 2018.

Vetle Forsell – ‘Stuck in a Haze’

About Vetle Forsell

I am a 26 year old bisexual and gender fluid singer/songwriter from Norway. The music I produce is a melodious and cinematic type of folk pop, with highly personal lyrics detailing life with mental illness and gender issues. My debut album, “Pictures in Frames” offers twelve snapshots from my own life, telling stories of otherness, gender confusion, anxiety, loss and psychosis. In spite of the heavy subject matters, each song carries a seed of hope, lending the music a sense of underlying optimism even at its darkest moments. The musical expression is among others inspired by artists like the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Sufjan Stevens.

I was born in 1992 in Stavanger, a town on the windy Norwegian west coast. Our house had an old piano which my mother used to play, the kind that has candlesticks and that eerie, beautiful sound well-worn pianos tend to have. I started playing classical pieces on it, and after a while expanded to the guitar. From there, I began writing my own music. It took a while to discover that I could sing as well, but when I did, my music quickly took the form of indie folk, blended with elements of pop and classical. I have always been a quiet, introspective kind of person, and during my years in school I gradually started feeling more and more different from people around me. Music provided a safe retreat from that otherness. In my early teens, I discovered I wasn’t straight as an arrow, which further complicated things for me. I started developing social anxiety, which reached its peak with the aforementioned psychiatric episode in Australia. After that, my life has been a long struggle to find my place in the world, which I now know is playing music and writing songs. I have spent the last years writing, recording and performing across Norway, establishing my musical expression and getting some positive attention on the national radio station (NRK) and at local festivals.

“Pictures in Frames” will be released worldwide on May 24th, 2019.

Infinite Fade Out – ‘Beautiful Energy’

About Infinite Fade Out

Even though I’ve been playing guitar for many years it’s only been since the end of 2017 that I’ve been writing and recording my own songs.

I record and produce everything in my tiny studio at home in Essex, UK.

All my songs have started as a few notes or chords on my Taylor acoustic guitar. Sometimes I’ll wake at night with an idea and I’ll get up and quickly record it on my phone. Otherwise it will be forgotten by the morning. I’ve usually got several songs or song ideas in various stages of completion.

For many years I wanted (and tried) to write a novel but I found it needed far too much detail for me. That’s why I love song writing because within a song I only really suggest a loose scenario and the music helps the fill in the gaps.

Vocals for some of my songs come from the amazing voice of Gina Ellen, a session singer in Devon.
