Today is a very special day for Last Day Deaf, since we are proud of hosting the exclusive video stream of Kill Shelter‘s collaboration with Buzz Kull in the dark banger ‘Bodies‘. An intense piece of work by two of the most promising and uprising genre’s acts; Edinburgh based multi-instrumentalist, producer and remixer Pete Burns collaborates ideally with Sydney musician Marc Dwyer  and the result is an intense, haunting, dark beauty for all the “creatures of the nite“…

Bodies‘ is taken from the Kill Shelter debut album ‘Damage‘ available via Unknown Pleasures Records.

Press Notes:

Tuesday the 6th November sees the second pre-release track taken from Kill Shelter’s debut album “Damage” in the shape of the dark and intense Bodies ft. Buzz Kull.

Taking inspiration from a suspected murder case and a related Podcast by the Australian entitled The Teacher’s Pet, this track explores the darker side of human nature. The backstory revolves around a disturbing cold case from 36 years ago in Australia, where the sinister disappearance of a young mother is shrouded in a veil of sordid mystery and guilt.

Pete

“I approached Marc to collaborate on a track for the Damage album on the strength of the incredible work he’d done as Buzz Kull and I was truly delighted when he accepted. The original demo track carried the main flattened fifth guitar line (also known as the Devil’s Interval) so it always had an unnerving and unsettling quality to it from the start but it was where Marc took it vocally and lyrically that really set fire to the track…”

Marc

“Bodies was sent to me during a lyrical drought and I had been trying to tie up some loose ends on the latest Buzz Kull album “New Kind of Cross”. I had not been writing much or thinking about lyrics for a few months but there was something about this particular track that really got to me.

After listening to an Australian crime podcast called “the Teachers Pet” it left me feeling very empty, but also full of thought. The lyrical content and direction of “Bodies” was based upon the real life events and details that surround this unresolved murder mystery.”

Pete

“When I received the test vocals back from Marc I simply couldn’t believe it. It was a real spine-tingling moment and I knew from that point that the track would just fall into place – the quality of his voice and delivery alone was simply brilliant. The lyrical content initially sounds like a love story then the subversive narrative becomes more and more apparent as the song develops. Clever, unnerving and very poignant stuff.”

“Pedro at Unknown Pleasures Records was very keen that we put it out as the follow up pre-release track to “In Decay” ft. Antipole & Delphine Coma (which in itself is starting to gather some traction ahead of the formal release date of 26th November). The video for Bodies was shot in Australia and Scotland (which makes it sound far more exotic than it actually is)… I had stumbled across an abandoned, derelict cabin in the woods about and hours drive from Edinburgh and shot the majority of the accompanying footage there. It was pretty horrible and I won’t be returning there in a hurry but I felt it fitted with the overall theme and mood that I wanted to create. The video itself is littered with subliminal images and layered thematic imagery which at times is deliberately indistinguishable to create a sense of dark intensity that is hopefully fitting and sympathetic to the track.”

Marc

“Pete had shared the underlying idea for Damage with me in advance so I was in no doubt Bodies would sit well with his concept – I think we may be kindred spirits in that respect. Considering the track and video were created quite literally from other sides of the world, they work seamlessly and you wouldn’t know that we hadn’t been in the same studio together at the same time.”

Bodies is taken from the debut Kill Shelter album “Damage” which features a host of artists and collaborators from around the globe including Hante., Buzz Kull, Delphine Coma, Antipole, undertheskin, Killjoi, The Shyness of Strangers, Pedro Code (Iamtheshadow), Nate Jespersen (ultrviolence), New Haunts and Bragolin. The album was mastered by Eric Van Wonterghem at Prodam-Berlin.
