What inspired you to first start making music? And how did you come to be in your current incarnation? Or if you prefer, a brief bio about you.

TS Bright is the duo of Lana Vermaine and Roman Zaizewski. We both have been interested in music and art since we were kids. It’s fascinating how human mind works and what it’s capable of, so we just want to explore the productive side of it.

Provide us with some info about your latest release…

We just released our debut album “Kaiten Comfort” consisted of 10 multi-genre songs, which makes it some sort of various pop record from one particular artist. And moreover, the album fits in 25 minutes, it’s laconic and to the point.

Which ones would you consider your main influences both music-wise & non-music-wise?

We’ve been more influenced by books and movies, rather than other music bands. For instance, some of the books that affected us the most would be “Oblomov” by Ivan Goncharov and “Of Human Bondage” by W. Somerset Maugham for Roman, and “Buddha’s Little Finger” by Victor Pelevin and “The Glass Bead Game” by Hermann Hesse for Lana.

In what way does your sound differ from the rest genre-related artists/bands and why should we listen to your music? In other words, how would you describe your sound?

We would describe our music as field-recorded pop because it’s rich in sounds and twists of different nature, and we avoid any polished and plastic sounds. It also has the elements of art rock, meaning that all of our songs are created in various genres, which brings something theatrical to what you hear, without being pretentious. And that is the reason why we stand out, in our opinion.

Please name your 3 desert islands albums, movies & books…

Roman’s choice:

Albums: Tiamat – Clouds, T. Rex – The Slider, Poco – Indian Summer

Books: “The Good Soldier Svejk” by Jaroslav Hasek, “Les Monts De Destin” by Francis Carsac, “Uncle’s Dream” by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Movies: Fallen Angels (1995), Maborosi (1995), The Hole (1998).

Lana’s choice:

Albums: Antonín Dvořák – The Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”, The Velvet Underground – The Velvet Underground, Endvra – Great God Pan

Books: “The Glass Bead Game” by Hermann Hesse, “The Idiot” by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, “The Magic Mountain” by Thomas Mann

Movies: Les visiteurs (1993), Nostalgia (by Andrei Tarkovsky), Our Little Sister (by Hirokazu Kore-eda)

Do you prefer studio or performing live and why?

In our opinion, music recorded in studio always prevails. Because live performances are about the musician’s image and persona, it’s always an entertainment first. While a record sounds the way it was intended, nothing distracts you from analyzing and enjoying it.

Is there any funny-unique story you would like to share with us, always in relation to your music ‘career’?

Roman’s musical background begins with playing in a jazz band and making beats for rappers. Lana was a singer/actress in musicals, playing Juliette for one. So naturally, when we met, we started making country music.

Which track of your own would you point out as the most unique and why?

“Focused Morning”. It’s unique because we stepped away from the cozy sound of all other songs and made this vigorous garage rock track, while still binding it together with the rest of the album with the help of psychedelic rock elements, penetrating the record one way or another.

Would you like to share with our readers your future plans?

We plan to enjoy our finished debut album a little and then work on new music in a completely different genre.

Free question!!! (Ask yourself a question) you wish to answer and haven’t been given the opportunity…

What’s the weirdest sound that’s been recorded for the album?

The drums for one of the tracks from “Kaiten Comfort” are composed entirely of the elbow cracking sounds.
