What inspired you to first start making music? And how did you come to be in your current incarnation? Or if you prefer, a brief bio about you.

All three of us have played music for a long time. By ourselves and in different bands. But for NONN it started when I (Christian) moved to Stockholm for a short time and rented an apartment with a small studio in it. My old band ‘The Orange Revival’ had slowed down a bit and I wanted to create something on my own. So during the winter of 2016, I locked myself into the studio and just experimenting with all kinds of sounds, it ended up to be a demo for the first NONN album. My brother Alexander helped me produce it to a proper album, and after Fuzz Club released it in May 2017, my brother and Hannes Nyling joined what now is the 3-piece band.

Provide us with some info about your latest release…

We recorded it in maybe 5 different sessions in Alexander’s studio in Stockholm. As we all don’t live in the same city, we had to spread out the sessions a bit. which made us listen back a lot and improve the songs more and more with every new session.

Which ones would you consider your main influences both music-wise & non-music-wise?

For nonn musically I think the main inspiration developed from when we were touring the first album, and the way we transformed the tracks to be both playable in a live situation but also interesting and fun for us to play night after night.

In what way does your sound differ from the rest genre-related artists/bands and why should we listen to your music? In other words, how would you describe your sound?

Think our music moves across a lot of different genres, and hopefully that is what makes it interesting. And the fact that we doesn’t really listen to this “genre” that much ourselfs.

We have always been listening to, and been playing all kinds of music. So I think that’s the key to the sound. Just experimenting until we find something interesting, without thinking to much about how it’s “supposed” to sound.

Do you prefer studio or performing live and why?

I think me (Christian) and my brother probably like working in the studio better than playing live. But we definitely don’t mind playing live. The more we do it the more fun it gets. And I think Hannes is more of a live guy. But really it’s 2 completely different things. But a funny thing about Alexander is that he doesn’t like rehearsing, like really doesn’t like it. So that combined with us living in different cities results in that we don’t really rehearse that much, we have definitely played more live shows than we’ve had rehearsals, haha.

Is there any funny-unique story you would like to share with us, always in relation to your music ‘career’?

Not one specific thing i can think of right now, i mean there’s always things happening every time we’re out playing, keybordstands collapsing on stage, flights getting canceled, promoters booking hotels the wrong dates.. etc. There’s a lot of things happening all the time, but i think that’s a common thing for every artist on tour.

Which track of your own would you point out as the most unique and why?

On the first Album it was ‘Walls’, I feel like is pretty unique and has for a long time been my favourite. It was the first track I finished with this project, so that inspired a lot of other sounds and tracks on both the records.

On the new album i think ‘Pray’ is probably that’s the most unique over all, since the tempo and the soundscape more comes from a feeling and an idea we had, rather than a music reference.

While ‘Past’ is the most unique for us, compared to the other songs.

Would you like to share with our readers your future plans?

We have an upcoming show on 13th of May opening for Underground Youth in Vienna/Austria.

Free question!!! (Ask yourself a question) you wish to answer and haven’t been given the opportunity…

Is it true that all of you live in Stockholm, as it says in every article and text about you?

No. Christian lives in Östersund. Which is almost a 7 hour drive from Stockholm. And that is not even close to Stockholm.
(he just wanted to make that clear)
