What inspired you to first start making music? And how did you come to be in your current incarnation? Or if you prefer, a brief bio about you.

I started playing music in a drunk party rock band in college and, after a few years of that, I started writing my own songs. For a long time, I played around Colorado as a singer-songwriter but was never happy with my acoustic recordings. I started to record my songs with a full band in mind and that is how Good Coffee came to be.

Provide us with some info about your latest release…

I recently released an EP ‘Coral Pink’ that I recorded mostly in my car on a 3-month long road trip across the country. I’ve been a drifter for most of my adult life and I think the tracks somewhat reflect that.

Which ones would you consider your main influences both music-wise & non-music-wise?

When I recorded these songs, I was listening to a lot of Martin Courtney, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, Joan Baez, and the new Melody’s Echo Chamber album. Living on the road, I got really into old outlaw country music while driving around the southwest.

In what way does your sound differ from the rest genre-related artists/bands and why should we listen to your music? In other words, how would you describe your sound?

I try to write and record songs that add a slight southern psychedelic twist to modern indie rock and folk music. I would describe my sound as vagrant space folk fit for Netflix’s next below average coming-of-age movie soundtrack.

Please name your 3 desert islands albums, movies & books…

o Albums – Rubber Soul by The Beatles, Beach Music by (Sandy) Alex G, So Tonight That I May See by Mazzy Star

o Books – The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann, East of Eden by John Steinbeck, Communion by Bell Hooks

o Movies – The Notebook, Napoleon Dynamite, About Time

Do you prefer studio or performing live and why?

Live performance 100%. I like playing music more when I have an audience.

Is there any funny-unique story you would like to share with us, always in relation to your music ‘career’?

I grew up in the same neighborhood as Ariana Grande in Florida. That’s not a funny story, but maybe she’ll read this and want to feature me on one of her songs. Her record label would never let that happen though.

Which track of your own would you point out as the most unique and why?

‘Mystic’ from the new EP is definitely the most unique. I originally wrote it with intentions of making it a synth pop ballad, but it turned into a retro sounding psychedelic country song.

Would you like to share with our readers your future plans?

I’m finishing up a song featuring another local Vegas band, Morosis, that should be out by the end of the year.

Free question!!! (Ask yourself a question) you wish to answer and haven’t been given the opportunity…

If you could open for any band on their current tour, who would it be?

I would want to open for (Sandy) Alex G right now. I love the way his songs transform when he plays them live and I take a lot of inspiration from that in my live sound.
