It’s with sorrow that the 16th edition of Fantaspoa Film Festival will be postponed, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Initially scheduled for May, currently, our forecast is that the 2020 edition of Fantaspoa takes place between the months of October and December of the current year.
We have some great news, though: aware of the importance and need of quarantine for the world’s population, Fantaspoa will launch, on April 1st, the Fantaspoa at Home project: a digital platform that will make available, free of charge and for access worldwide, selected titles from our previous 15 editions!

Fantaspoa started out as a friends’ dream of exhibiting their favorite films on the big screen for other like-minded cinema aficionados. On our history, we’ve met many people who love cinema as much as we do and who embraced the event with us.
Since its beggining having a curatorial focus, the festival was held independently until its sixth edition, each year gaining more public and space in the cultural agenda of the city (and the country). From the seventh to the fifteenth edition, Fantaspoa received sponsorships from major Brazilian companies, which enabled the festival to bring to Brazil a much larger number of guests, films, in addition to carrying out many parallel activities and workshops.
Gradually, Fantaspoa became a true international community, and became increasingly important within the film festival circuit. That is why it is the only South American representative of the Méliès Federation, which congregates the 25 most important fantastic film festivals in the world – among them, the ones that inspired the creation of Fantaspoa. Also, it was selected in 2018 by MovieMaker magazine as one of the 30 most important genre events in the world.
